Once Upon A Time
The Ted Talk I chose to watch was "Wisdom of great writers from every year of life"
Joshua discusses experts from books about the author's age. To begin, Joshua uses Pathos to convey his message of positivist and encouragement and how this may not have been written specifically for him, but how it can apply to all of those who read. He then goes onto reading many more experts, from different authors, about age and their life at that point in time. He examines how time moves almost slower, as we now live longer with modern medicine, and have more time to experience the wonders of life. The emphasis of quotes from an older age, saying how their time is up or they have lived their life, shows that age is just a number. No matter how old or how young you think you are, you still have your life ahead of you and there is nothing that can put a limit on what you can achieve. Joshua uses pathos as a main point of conversation, hitting on the emotional aspect of coming of age. The reason that I primary chose to look a this Ted Talk due to the interest I had in hearing about the best these writers had to offer from each year. I was expecting to gather a lit of wisdom but instead it focused more on the effect age has on your outlook of life. I thought Joshua did a great job pointing out both a young and old audience, to inform them of wisdom from writers of all ages. Through this communication, I believe that Joshua wants to inform the audience of their potential as both a writer and as a person, no matter how old or young they might be. He wants them to know that the information that he is giving them can be used and there should be no limit on what you can achieve despite your age. He is able to convince the audience of this by keeping a positive attitude throughout his whole speech. An example of this is when he explains why that the year he turns 44 will be a good year for him and many others. Even though it might seem like just another year, he is able to express his optimism and show he kibbles he will accomplish great things at age 44.
