What's The Meaning Of My Name?
Over the years I have constantly pondered the thought of why my parents would choose such a random name as Kenan. You never herd about someone named Kenan doing something historic except for being a comedian on Saturday Nigh Live. So I decided why not give it a shot and see if my name has any meaning or significance or if my parents were just huge SNL fans. It turns out, to my relief, the name Kenan holds religious importance in Christianity, as well as possessing a Hebrew origin meaning to acquire. It comes also from the Irish decent, which makes sense that both my mom and dad's decedents coming from that area of Europe. However, I also learned about the meaning of my middle name Oliver, and why I had it changed when I was ten years old. My mother had a nanny growing up by the name of Olivia. My Grandmother suffered Brest cancer at a very young age and I never got the chance to meet her. While she was sick, Olivia was the mother figure in my moms life. She was always at her school plays and waited for her at the bus stop everyday after school. Right before Olivia passed,my mother promised her if she had a daughter she would name her Olivia. My mother never had a daughter, so i got the middle name Oliver. Why she changed it so late in my opinion she was going through a mid life crisis but that's just me.
I strongly relate to Anna Quindle when describes the "two" created by being an individual and a apart of a whole. My middle name was not always Oliver, it was once Josiah. This name was unique to me due to what I have learned about how Josiah was a strong man of God in the Bible. Growing up my parents reminded me of how strong of a name Josiah was and how I should be proud of the name. However, my life was shook the day I learned my name had gotten changed. I had no knowledge of this change and had no say in the matter. Oliver was not present to me and people constantly reminded me of how I looked like Oliver Twist growing up. Yes I was only 10 when this happend, but even I knew that Josiah was a better middle name. But I knew changing my name would mean I was apart of a bigger "whole" being more meaningful in a family sense, so as long as the fam good im good.
